YHC
An event recognizing the young, breed registered horses of our sport
Introduction
The inaugural running of the of the Southern Stars Young Horse Championship (YHC) occurred in 2009. The first qualifier of this series was held at the Eldorado Recreation Reserve in Victoria with nine horses successfully qualifying. Further events were held in Qld, NSW, and SA. 24 horses qualified for the final, which was held at the Walwa ride in December.
The purpose of the Southern Stars Young Horse Championships is twofold. Firstly, it is a vehicle to promote and highlight the breeding and training of Australian endurance horses. The YHC series has been developed as a vehicle for this promotion by providing a series of events in which attention can be drawn to the achievements of the young horses.
The second purpose of the series is to provide a stream of revenue that is used in other programs developed and managed by the Australian Endurance Squad. These programs include the education and development of squad members and officials.
The structure of the YHC involves the nomination of horses for inclusion in the series, qualifying at one of the many qualifiers and then competing in the final. Special completion trophies are provided for each successful completion within a qualifier.
The series is proudly sponsored by Castlebar Endurance who also further support the series with the entry of a number of their young horses into the qualifying events.
